Yes, yes. I got hit with the sudden urge to draw him topless and i decided to extend the graces to umemiya (thats his son in all but blood so ofc) and togame (no. 3 on my list). But ig four sounded better than 3 but i didnt know who to pick so i let y'all pick for me. Now takiishi's there, with messly drawn up left hand on the handstand sksk. The reference photo wasnt any better, who knew people could have such large fingers.

Because im insane thats why and what is normal, dont know her. Also i thought it would be a good way to learn how the torso anatomy and how the muscles work u know? And i chose quite the variety to characters that canonically have different body types that i can play around. So now i know which muscles go where and how light plays with it skks.

Kintype Discovery Story

A little over a month ago I came across a childhood notebook of mine, from around when I was 6. In it, I wrote all sorts of weird stuff. Comics, random things about my family, daily happenings.

But I also wrote... a LOT about King De/dede.

Now, mind you, the only Ki/rby game I’d played at the time was Kirb/y 64. King D/edede was one of my favorites in the game, so 6 year old me imagined hanging around with him.

Except all I ever did was watch him eat, and watch TV with him. Evident by the fact that’s what I even wrote about IN MY NOTEBOOK.

Seeing this stuff in my notebook made me start fondly remembering other things I imagined as a kid. Watching Yug/i run alongside my schoolbus... imagining S/onic during gym class... the hundred wadd/le dees in the storage room.

Wait. Another Kir/by thing. This time about Wadd/le Dees.

Keep in mind that this was still after I had only played Kir/by 64. How many wad//dle dees were in Kirb/y 64?

One.

And yet, child me was INSISTENT that there was more than one. And also, that Wa/ddle Doo was its own separate entity.

Weird, I thought to myself. I hadn’t known there were multiple wa/ddle dees until... the anime.

I only ever saw three episodes of the Kirb/y anime, mostly because it was on so early in the morning. It was two years after I had played Kirb/y 64 that I saw this anime for this first time.

Reflecting on it, I got hit with a thought.

Thinking back on it... I’m not sure HOW I didn’t kinfirm this sooner. What I imagined in my childhood about Kirb/y stuff was not only weirdly accurate, but there were even MORE signs.

1. I always had some sort of affinity to characters with big hammers. Amy R//ose was another character I really liked.

2. Characters like Zaz/u from Li/on King and Cogswo/rth from Beau/ty and the B/east always resonated with me. Like a, “oh, I totally get it.” Resonating. Relatable.

3. ALSO my strange habit of latching onto horrible, HORRIBLE royalty/rich characters. Kiseki from Shu/go Ch//ara, Sno/oty Villagers from anim/al cross/ing, Pri/ncess Mor/bux from P/PG... you see the theme here.

4. Also, my weird... uh. How do I put it. I never really feel like I should be front and center. I’m more of a... P2 if you will.

Anime Update 90

The Day I Became A God - The game-changing, fittingly titled "Day of Deicide" episode actually only gets to what we all kinda knew was coming in its last third. For the prior two thirds the focus is on Hiroto as he secretly observes Hina and Yota and completes his analysis. And I could not be happier with that choice since Hiroto is objectively the best character on the show. Like, this kid is just all kinds of fascinating to watch, especially here when we get to see his feral rage unleashed and are given a glimpse into his backstory where his info-gathering and hacking gifts were exploited by his hideously abusive parents in order to get them quick and easy money. I could not blame younger Hiroto at all for being elated at their deaths. The weird part of the episode was the visualization of exactly how Hiroto uses his own unique super ability - he literally dives into the ocean of information, suddenly has webbed feet as he swims in it, and chases down a computer program fish that’s being protected by some kind of whale. It was really cool but also really strange. Hiroto ends up finding out how the computer program developed by Hina’s genius grandfather was planted in Hina's head, granting her a miraculous recovery from her Logos Syndrome and filling her head with data that provided her godlike omniscience. When Hiroto realizes that his findings are only to be used to exploit Hina, he’s able to mentally warn her what’s coming just as the CEO he’s been working for gets the approval of a shadowy government council to capture Hina, who’s deemed a potential global security threat. And despite Yota and the others efforts to protect her, Hina willingly surrenders since her world is coming to an end anyway, leading to a very different ED credits that perfectly captured the sorrowful despair of this situation.

Dragon Ball - Even within the confines of anime filler, this episode was filler. It had Goku and Chi Chi looking for this nearly extinct bird called a Fire Eater because Roshi’s turtle claimed that a Fire Eater’s feather was needed for making the Bancho Fan, which took them to lava-filled caverns where they meet an old scientist who sounds like Professor Oak and have to protect the Fire Eater egg from Emperor Pilaf, Shu, and Mai, who are just suddenly in the show again because why not? What makes this so filler-y is that at the end it turns out that Turtle got his information wrong and the feathers can’t be taken, so now Goku and Chi Chi have to go looking elsewhere!

Your Lie In April - So Kaori has now been assuring Kosei that she was totally just kidding about that whole double suicide offer, but Kosei won't hear of it. Took a remarkably good, serious talking to from Watari of all people to get Kosei to go visit Kaori in the hospital again, but he and she don't have that much to say to each other once he does, to the point where Kaori, who's clearly given up on life at this point, tells Kosei to just forget all about her and move on with his life. I find this interesting since Kaori's whole deal was that she wanted to leave behind a lasting impression and be remembered so that she'd "live in people's hearts forever", so when she's telling Kosei to forget her, it's a sign that her physical AND mental state have taken a turn for the worse indeed. The rest of what I watched was mostly about Kosei and Nagi performing a piano duet at Nagi's school festival, with Nagi experiencing severe performance anxiety in the days leading up to it. But when the time comes, Kosei embraces the adversarial light that Nagi sees him in so as to motivate her to play her best in order to keep up with him. And their duet was really, REALLY good because of this, with the insights into Nagi's state of mind and how much giving her big brother a boost in faith and confidence for his own musical caeer means to her really endeared me to her as a character all the more. Takeshi was watching this, of course, and he confronts Kosei backstage all furious and envious of how he well he performed with his little sister, which is when Kosei finally finds out that Nagi is, in fact, Takeshi’s little sister. As Takeshi swears he’ll beat Kosei in the upcoming piano competition and storms out, it’s unclear how much Nagi was able to reach him. And this whole time, the recital was being streamed for Kaori in the hospital, reawakening her passion for music...and for life. Kosei visits her on the hospital rooftop for an emotionally tense yet pretty understated confrontation in which he ends up challenging Kaori to push herself to get better so that she can play her violin in a duet with his piano. She accepts, but of course since she already got the children with her at the time thinking Kosei’s a trespassing jackass, they get all savage on him and Kaori has the last laugh yet again.

Much as I enjoyed this little mini-arc with Nagi and think it was a really solid use of Kosei that made me appreciate and respect him a lot more, I still feel there are characters and potential plot threads being neglected here. Takeshi and his angst have pretty much become a plot device for his little sister’s own angst, Emi has gotten little exposure and done jack shit as of late, and again, we needed more Kaori POV that the occasional flashes of it we get. This is a very critical period for her character, where she’s finally run out of plans, the tightness she formed with Kosei seems to be slipping away along with her health and musical abilities, and she’s about ready to finally accept her fate and die of her illness when her time comes...until she’s blindsided by an angle she never saw before, that being that in all this time she’s been helping Kosei find the will to live and to play music again, she never expected him to in turn give her the hope that she could, in fact, go on living and making music to her hearts content, and the strength and desire to act upon that hope. Her emotions and all that she knows and expects are now conflicted, but in the face of the light and color that Kosei is returning to her life, none of it matters - her spirit is soaring and there is nothing that can hold her down any further no matter how terminally ill she may still be. It’s such a fascinating turn for such a fascinating character, so it really deserved even more time and extra focus to do it justice.

Date A Live S2 - Strangely enough, the special extra episode for this season seems to have taken place some time after Season 1, before all the events of the season itself. But man, what a shockingly cruel and depressing story this turned out to be. It takes place on the day of the Tanabata Festival and is a prolonged date between Shido and Kurumi, who seems suspicious at first but it’s made increasingly clear that she only wants to enjoy this day with Shido to the fullest, to the point of even doing a fake wedding shoot with him like Yuno and Yuki did (Josh Grelle can’t avoid landing these types of roles, can he?), because it turns out she’s an escaped variant of Kurumi from another point in time who doesn’t have long before present day Kurumi tracks her down and “kills” her. Which is exactly what fucking happens. By the time Shido nearly injures himself placing Past Kurumi’s Tanabata wish up high on a tree, she’s already been skewered and absorbed by Present Kurumi, who cheerfully walks off, to menace Shido and the Spirits again some other day. What. the actual. fuck. WAS this?

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion - Oh yeah, we got to THIS ONE. The wild and wacky annual Ashford Academy school festival that actually makes the “chase the cat with Zero’s mask on” episode look tame in comparison! It’s just a hot mess of a situation all around where Lelouch, who is Zero and who Euphemia knows is Zero, is at the festival. Kallen, who Suzaku knows is a Black Knight, comes to the festival and has to work around Suzaku, who she knows is with the Britannian military but who openly states he prefers the two of them be at peace while on campus grounds as schoolmates. Ougi, who Kallen knows as a Black Knight co-worker but Suzaku doesn’t, comes with the amnesiac Vieltta. Shirley, Milly, Nina, and even Lloyd and Cecille show up too, and a series of close encounters risks the revealing of everyone’s secrets. And on top of all that, Suzaku gets to do the honors of tossing the dough to make the Worlds Largest Pizza, but when Euphie’s presence is exposed a mass panic ensues and causes it to be ruined. C.C’s horrified reaction is just perfect. 

But alas, it all ends with Euphie announcing on live TV her plan (which Schniezel suspiciously approved yet Cornelia had no idea about) to turn the section of Area 11 around Mt. Fuji into the Specially Administrated Zone of Japan (SAZOJ), where Elevens can be  Japanese again. Lelouch is FURIOUS about this, partially due to valid concerns that she’s naively putting trust in a plan that’s being set up to fail, but mostly because if it does go through, his revolution will lose its public foundations, and if he vocally opposes it, he’ll lose support from the Elevens who work for him! His hopes of toppling Britannia, taking revenge on his father, and building the world Nunnally wishes for will go down the drain! And he seems on the edge of the deep end, like he’s not gonna take this and will do just about anything to stop it from happening. Hoh boy, this is gonna hurt.

Sound! Euphonium - Was really happy to see Natsuki keeping in good spirits despite not making the cut last time, and I liked the scene she and Kumiko shared on their little smoothie date. She’s not done too much before now, but she is a very positive, friendly and insightful character that I hope to see the show make more use of going forward. But then we get to the real meat of the episode when Yuko Yoshikawa, a second-year trumpet player with a pretty distinct design, is all pissy that her idol Kaori (again, not THAT Kaori) got passed up in favor of Reina as the trumpet soloist and when she learns that Mr. Taki has past history with Reina prior to teaching at Kitauji, she publicly accuses him of playing favorites in the auditions, which gets everyone talking and spreading rumors. It gets to the point where not only did Reina angrily rebuke Yuko (declaring very bluntly “I’m just flat out better than Kaori, so you can suck it!”), but it’s all clearly getting under Taki’s skin too and he even has an outburst at one point. Certainly not something that happens often, and I have to say that I do feel really bad for the guy since this would have to be a stressful thing for a teacher to deal with when it’s regarding one of his students. Reina also cuts loose and confides to Kumiko that she chose to enroll in this school because she has a crush on Mr. Taki, much to Kumiko's surprise. Finally, Mr. Taki has had enough and he makes the band an offer for a second round of auditions for anyone looking to appeal the results of that first audition. Naturally, Kaori asks to redo her solo audition, meaning Reina will have to redo hers as well. I honestly can’t say I’m sympathetic to Kaori or Yuko here, as they’re acting really entitled. And I can understand why Mr. Taki chose this option - he wants to silence the bad talk once and for all. Reina Kousaka will be chosen on her own merits, or not at all.

Magic Knight Rayearth - So in between waiting for Hikaru and/or Eagle to awaken and have their worth as the Pillar’s successor judged, Umi is given a challenge from the Princesses Tatra and Tarta of Chietza - an in-person battle, no Rune Gods or Djinns, loser has to surrender to the winner’s terms. Thankfully, Umi is able to beat both princesses, who were both prepared to lose since they, like Aska, had been having second thoughts about invading Cephiro and claiming the Pillar System anyway. Meanwhile, Lady Debonair can sense Cephiro’s crown has come alive with the Proof of the Pillar once more, which is what she hopes to quell so that she may gain full power and have Cephiro crumble away into nothing but an empty void that she may reign over for eternity. So it looks like once more  Nova is going to have a chance to play with her precious Hikaru...

AMC: Yuki Yuna Is A Hero - Episode 3 bucked the trend of the last two by having the magical girl action against the Vertex only at the very start of the episode, which is when this new girl comes in and arrogantly declares that now that she, a truly powerful hero, is on the scene, the Hero Club girls’ efforts on their own are no longer needed. This girl, Karin Miyoshi, then transfers into the girls school and is taken to the club room, where it’s worked out that she’ll oversee the “lesser” heroes training. While I suspected I’d like this character, I’d pegged her immediately as the Kyoko Sakura of this show (even though she’s got Sayaka Miki’s VA). Which I guess she kind of is, but as the episode played out it became increasingly clear that....she’s Nico. Yes, this little bitch is eerily similar to Nico “Nico Ni” Yazawa, and with the temperment of Georgia from Pokemon: Best Wishes. It was just too much: I could not stop cracking up at her own antics and her reactions to those of her four new friends. She really ends up being a ton more likable and endearing than you’d expect her to be given what a smug hotshot she comes off as at first, and the final act was just all kinds of heartwarming. Karin has clearly given her all to the life of a hero who fights the Vertex that she’s got no friends and can’t even keep track of things like when it’s her own birthday, so seeing that she now has friends who give her a surprise birthday celebration at her house really got me right in the feels. With Karin here now, this show can only get even more fun going forward.

WataMote - After the previous episode was so lonely and miserable for Tomoko, this one was exactly the sort of catharsis that was needed. Tomoko tries to actually involve herself in helping her class prepare for the cultural festival (sure were a lot of festivals this Thanksgiving week, huh?), and when she cuts her hand by accident, she’s helped by a girl named Megumi who happens to be the festival committee president and seems to take a liking to the weirdo girl. It gets better when at the festival, Tomoko invites Yu-Chan to hang with her there, recieving an intimate hug from her upon their meeting up, something Tomoko then actively tries to get a repeat of ‘cause she is just so nakedly infatuated with Yu-Chan and loves every aspect of her. Despite not getting a second hug, Tomoko ends up appreciating her and Yu’s time together, finding that populated events become more fun for her when she’s got a friend to share them with. She gets a bit downhearted after Yu leaves, only to be reminded that she’s made another friend through all this when Megumi comes to her in a mascot costume and gives her a big, comforting hug. D’aaaaawwww!

CLANNAD: After Story - I am officially done with a rewatch of this that I did throughout the Fall season. It’s amazing to think how much time has passed since I first picked up Clannad in late 2019. This still held up as well as I remembered and is just a well realized, thought and feels-provoking story in a beautifully done series, adaptational issues towards the very end notwithstanding. Not everything gelled together perfectly, but Tomoya and Nagisa’s intertwined journeys are still so powerful, they will stick with me for many more years to come.

10 Show Notes - Which dynastic restoration most deserves an epic movie/miniseries?

Look....we’re all thinking it....

Before going on to the show notes, don’t forget to listen to the episode! 

Dynastic restorations have always been a very appealing fantasy--in tumultuous times like these, who doesn’t want a righteous leader to show up and set all things right in the world? Preferably one with mystical powers that enable them to accomplish the impossible, as well as a nice patina of grandeur inherited from some illustrious royal ancestor. 

(Side note: in the episode, we promised to link the weird story of King Arthur’s conception and birth, because that’s a whole thing and he definitely qualifies as a dynastic restoration. Here you go.) 

Of course, people like these are pretty thin on the ground, and even when they do get around to a glorious dynastic restoration, things don’t always go as planned. (See above.) But sometimes they’ve turned out better than expected, so we thought we’d take a look at some of the times in history where heirs have emerged to restore their families to power and glory.

The main source we used for the Han dynasty was Jonathan Fenby’s The Dragon Throne: China’s Emperors from the Qin to the Manchu, with some help from help from Mark Edward Lewis’s The Early Chinese Empires: Qin and Han. 

Fenby’s book, which mostly covers the different dynasties in wide swaths, has great details about Wang Mang’s rise and downfall since he technically qualifies as a dynasty in his own right, the Hsin. Meanwhile Lewis’s book does discuss the dynastic histories of this period, but he’s much more interested in what we can learn about daily life in Qin/Han China. I really recommend it for anyone who’s planning on doing historical fiction in this period.

Restored 756, al-Andalus (present-day Spain)

Our main source on the Umayyads and the fascinating culture of al-Andalus was The Ornament of the World by Maria Rosa Menocal, which traces Andalusian history from before its founding through the final defeat of Granada in 1492 and also covers the enduring cultural legacy of Islamic Spain. 

If you want to know more about the Abbasid coup that sent Abd al-Rahman to North Africa and Spain in the first place, as well as the early history of Islam, there are pretty solid accounts in both Destiny Disrupted by Tamim Ansary and The House of Wisdom by Jim al-Khalili. Interestingly, both books include an account of the Umayyads being wiped out in a murder dinner--something of a theme in this episode. Meme: 10 favorite characters

Okay, this one sounds fun. Favorite characters in 10 different fandoms.

1. Fullmetal Alchemist. Roy. I mean, Ed is huge fun to write, and so is Al when he gets his snark on, but Roy is my most reliable fic-fodder character, plotting creature that he is.

2. Prince of Tennis. Probably Yukimura, with Rikkai as a whole coming close second. They’re just so much fun to write about as a team; tasty dynamics everywhere, especially with the angst-lever to crack it all open.

3. Bleach. Hm. This one is actually a little difficult. I mean, in absolute terms, Rukia, but, again, mostly Rukia in relation to Ichigo and Orihime and Renji. Close second place is split by Byakyua and Hirako Shinji, despite the second’s late appearance.

4. Kuroko no Basuke. Kuroko, hands down, often in relation to Kagami, but also in relation to the other Miracle-idiots. No one can lay the straight-faced smackdown like Kuroko.

5. Angel Sanctuary. Mad Hatter, with Kira following close behind. I have a soft spot for complex motivation, in case that wasn’t obvious.

6. Naruto. Kakashi, closely followed by Sakura, albeit usually in the key of “omfg, move over and let me drive” given that canon gives them both a pretty raw deal, character-development-wise.

7. 07-Ghost. Frau. I also have a /huge/ soft spot for Teito and Ouka, and everything they might make of their world, but Frau is the most fun to play with.

8. Katekyou Hitman Reborn. Gokudera is entertainingly highstrung, but the more I dug into it, the more Squalo showed up with a bagful of plot and emotional porn. 

9. GetBackers. Kazuki, especially in relation to Saizou, Toshiki, Sakura, and Juubei. Also with the emotional porn and fix-it urges.

10. Nirvana in Fire. Lin Shu/Mei Changsu, yes, all the way. A type, I can haz it, and it’s called Magnificent Bastards.

In conclusion, I clearly like the ones who smile politely all the while they’re getting a nice, iron grip on everything around them. Though also the ones whose central motivation is devotion.

Al Ain muroor canceled my car for no reason.

Recently, I've imported a 15' altima with front accident damage. It was minor just the bumper and the hood needed a replacement. AND A SLIGHTTTT Bend to the chassis. I've been in car importing business for a good while (somewhere around 5 years) and i had a problem with registering the cars (accidented cars mostly as i get them repaired very well and replace airbags and what not.). So i got the car checked and stuff as usual before taking it to the muroor. so i get there and this filipino guy who works there (inspector i suppose) starts looking around the car and stuff. All the sudden. He cancels out my car from being registered in the State of Abu dhabi. At first he wouldn't tell me why. So then i made a fuss about it and his "Mudeer" or something comes out and hes like "Shu salfa" (whats the problem). I tell him that he canceled out my car and he gave me no reason on why he did that. so then the filipino guy is like "HIS WHOLE CAR CHASIS IS WELDED" DUDE WHAT F**K. FIRST OFF ALL NO WELDS WERE DONE TO GET THE CHASIS STRAIGHTENED. The Emirati "Mudeer" or something then processed to say "Hes right, Don't aruge and go". he didnt even look at the car. The car is perfectly fine. I got it "passed" from tasjeel in Dubai without any problems but i can't register it there and i've a customer waiting to buy the car who knows that the car was accidented and has the pics of it. Hes really pissed about it. because he lives in Al Ain and he can't get it registered here.

Sorry for the long post but i really need help here. But what are my options here ?

Do you know. Touken had a freaking wedding ceremony this new chapter. The only good thing about that was that Touka and Kaneki’s costumes were serious eye candy, beautifully drawn (I mean, it was Shuu’s work, how could they not be beautiful) and that we got to see drunk Yomo stealing Nishiki’s glasses and calling him 'Nishi’.

(Also Kaneki is just really mean to Shuu? I mean, he never apologized for what happened with Kanae, he never talks about what happened during the Tsukiyama Family Extermination Operation arc, he smilingly told Shuu “I’m going to marry Touka’ to his face, and this chapter he’s seen sitting alone with Touka, telling her that Shu insisted on them having a wedding and planned all himself. We don’t even get a 'thank you’ from Kaneki, just Touka being all "Hey, he’s always been good at that kind of stuff.”

Like, come on. You ruined Shuu’s life, Kaneki, even if you didn’t mean to, and you never apologized. Don’t you think it’s, oh, I don’t know, a little insensitive to go talking about how happy you are in front of him and act like everything’s cool when it hasn’t even been that long since you impaled him, threw him off a roof, and indirectly killed his cousin?)

I KNOW! I was such an idiot ;-; I think it was mostly the art style that made me think that, because tbh it looks a lot like typical Shounen art during the earlier manga chapters and in the anime (I do think it starts looking a lot better in later manga chapters though).

Ok, the thing about Mustang is that I like him and hate him at the same time. It isn’t his fault, but tumblr made me think that basically “TINY MINISKIRTS” + cool flame powers + major troll to Ed + loves Promotion almost as much as Urie= Roy Mustang, and turns out that was wrong XD I mean, all of those ARE true, but there’s a lot more to his character than that and he’s also colder than I thought he’d be (especially for a guy with fire powers lol sorry). He’s still really cool, though.

True, just from what I know about him Greedling seems to have a LOT more development than the original Greed ever had. I still like Original Greed though, mostly for his attitude and his style XD (something about his 'death’ scene and his final words to Father sort of gave me chills, in a weird way)

I expected Al & Ed to be your typical shounen protagonists but they’re a lot more complex than I thought! And way more likable. Al’s kitty obsession gives me life.

Also, Lust. Freaking Lust. I just read her death scene today and even though I’d already watched it as a clip from the anime it still gave me chills (especially since I was imagining her English VA’s voice and WOW).

And Bradley. I was sort of expecting him to either turn out to be a villain or play a really big role in the story later on, but I wasn’t quite expecting him to be Wrath…the moment it was revealed I was like “oh NO” because come on, I liked Bradley ;-; he was a cool dude.

As for Scar, idk. He’s not quite the type of character I usually 'crush’ on but he’s just… wow 0.0 I also just like his character in general, all his backstory and personality and his character arc.

(Though if I imagine meeting him irl all I can see is him giving me one look and me immediately curling up into a ball on the floor and just freezing up right there because wow, that’s scary

I met Olivier. She was one of the characters I was interested in even when I only knew FMA from tumblr, and now that she’s actually appeared….I love her. She’s amazing. I’m officially over Lust (sorry bae but you’ve been dead for a while)

I also like Mustang a lot better now. He’s slowly but surely worming his way into my ‘top characters’ list (especially after I watched that one Koma Theater thing with his 'on hold’ song omg).

And hey, Ling suddenly became one of my favs. Idk how even because I was sorta indifferent to him at first but just… don’t ask LOL I’ve also met Greedling and I definitely see why he’s one of your favs :D I personally can’t quite 'crush’ on him tho because he’s two different people mashed into one body…guess that just means Queen Luna can have him all to herself ;)

Also, Kimblee/Kimbly/Kimberley/Kimberly/whatever the heck his name is supposed to be (I want to go with Kimblee or Kimberley but then I see someone else using a different version and it’s like “??? can I just call him Fedora-chan?”). This Magnificent Bastard. I hate him. I love him. Possibly one of the most interesting characters in the entire series. Boy, you got me helpless- and NOT IN A GOOD WAY *incoherent screaming*
